Differentiation

Differentiation
Differences are a fantastic part of being human. We all have different preferences, interests, strengths and areas to work on. Our teachers at Palmwoods State School recognise that our students all have different learning needs and work very hard to ensure that each students’ learning needs are catered for, a process known as differentiation.

In keeping with our School Motto Learning and Growing Together, our teachers with their coaches are working on making the ways that we differentiate for each student even more effective. Teachers work with the students to identify learning goals in reading, writing and maths and then provide regular feedback to the students on how they’re going with their learning goal. They provide students with time to practise their goal and celebrate when they have achieved it.

How can I help at home?
*  Communicate regularly with your child’s teacher in whatever way works for you eg email, pre-arranged meetings, informal chats at drop off or pick up times etc so that strong partnerships that support your child are developed.
* Give your child lots of different opportunities to try different things eg sport, board games, outdoor play time, digital devices, quiet time activities, construction, drawing, puzzles etc. all of which help them learn in different ways.
* Remember that we can all get better at what we do if we put the time and effort into it and practise. We call this our Growth Mindset.
If you have any concerns or questions about your child’s learning, remember to talk with your child’s teacher, so that it can be worked on together.

Happy recognition of catering for differences.
