Volunteer Appreciation

29/06/2015
Meet Richard Waldie, he has been a loyal, hardworking volunteer in our school since his son Darren began Prep here at Palmwoods in 2009. This is Darren’s final year at Palmwoods as he is off to high school next year. Richard has very strong community ties, having grown up in Palmwoods and as a past student of Palmwoods State School himself.
Richard has been an active member of our P & C since 2009, fulfilling both positions of President and Vice President. He has also been a parent representative on the School Council since it’s inception in 2014. Richard has been a constant in manning the BBQ at any school fundraiser since Darren commenced school here, Arts Alive, Performance Nights, Elections, Sports & Red Food Days and I can’t imagine how many sausages he has actually cooked. He’s also pretty good setting up & serving behind the bar for our Trivia Nights. Richard also is a skilled parking attendant for our musicals.
The Country Fair is the P&C’s major fundraiser for the year, Richard has contributed many hours in the
planning, co-ordinating & clean up in the past 7 years & we do hope he comes back next year just for the
‘fun’ of it.
Richard was one of a few people who were integral in the establishment of our new Tuckshop. He
assisted in acquisition of the funding through grants & a loan. He was also able to assist with the planning
of the tuckshop, because as a volunteer in the tuckshop he had a great understanding of the needs & functionality required. Richard has also been a very handy man to have around for the school working bees.
He’s energetic, enthusiastic, organised, can fix just about anything & he’s able to operate all of “Laurie’s” machinery.
It’s also the small things over the years he has contributed as a parent in the classroom which assist the teachers and other students. He has helped with rotations in Prep, changing the class readers, escorting the students to and from swimming lessons in the earlier years of Darren’s schooling and as a parent volunteer helping out on school excursions & camps just to name a few.
Palmwoods State School students and staff would like to thank Richard for his dedication, commitment & contribution to our students, staff and our greater school community.
